Ready Player One

Ready Player One: Steven Spielberg's Ready Player One (above) scored big at the box office over the weekend, earning an estimated $53.2 million since opening in theaters last Thursday. It marked the largest opening for the director since 2008's Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull. The film also earned an additional $128 million in 62 international territories, bringing its worldwide total to $181.2 million. [Box Office Mojo]

Mary Tyler Moore: Lena Waithe (Ready Player One, above) wants to make a Mary Tyler Moore biopic. She says: "I don’t think people are expecting that from a black lesbian from the south side of Chicago. But, I read her autobiography more times than I can count. Because I was obsessed with The Mary Tyler Moore Show. I was, like, who is this woman?  Who is this person that everybody is wanting to be, that everybody was so happy when she came on screen? … I want to tell her story." [THR]

 

Rough Night

Danny Boyle Comedy: Kate McKinnon (Rough Night, above) is in negotiations to join the cast of an untitled comedy from director Danny Boyle and writer Richard Curtis (Love, Actually). Lily James and Himesh Patel are already set to star. No plot details about the film have been revealed yet, though it is reported to be "music-themed and set in the 1960s or '70s." [Variety]
