Black Widow Solo Movie in the Works
While not officially announced by Marvel and Disney, a solo Black Widow movie has been pretty much confirmed by Marvel head Kevin Feige. Here's what he said to Deadline when asked about spin-offs for other members of the Avengers who have so far been denied their own showcases:
"We’ve announced the next 9 movies, 10 counting Civil War, through the end of 2019. Where we go beyond that are ongoing discussions that we’ll focus on in the next few years because we have a lot to do before then. Of the characters that you’ve just mentioned I would say certainly the one creatively and emotionally that we are most committing to doing is Black Widow."
Feige added, "We think she’s an amazing character. We think Scarlett Johansson’s portrayal of her is amazing. She’s a lead Avenger and has amazing stories in her own right to tell that we think would be fun to turn into a stand-alone franchise."
Can Johansson hold out for the next decade, though? We can be sure the fans will, gladly, since this is mostly due to their demand. What do you think?
Captain Marvel Will Be in Avengers: Infinity War
It's pretty much been assumed Captain Marvel (aka Carol Danvers) would show up in the next two Avengers movies. Even before her movie was pushed back to 2019, that MCU installment was to be released between the two parts of Avengers: Infinity War. That's still the case now, and it makes sense for her to at least show up in the second part, following her solo effort.
Well, now it's definite. According to ComicBookMovie.com, at an event at the Smithsonian this week, Civil War directors the Russo brothers "accidentally" let her name slip when discussing who'd be fighting Thanos in the crossover-event movie. They jokingly tried to cover it up by saying, "Um....Captain Barvel. Totally different character."
If the character makes her debut in the first part, that will be nearly a year before the release of Captain Marvel. The first installment of Infinity War is due on May 3, 2018.
