We’ve been wondering for awhile now what M. Night. Shyamalan would do next, especially coming off a really big movie (The Last Airbender) that didn’t exactly become a hit with fans. Would he take some time off from directing, or would he dive right back in with another unique project? What we do know is that he’s been busy growing his Night Chronicles brand, which includes movies based on ideas and concepts he’s had (like Devil), and now, according to Heat Vision, he’ll be teaming up to direct a film that he did not write himself (a rarity for the controversial filmmaker).

M. Night Shyamalan

It’s called One Thousand A.E. and it comes from screenwriter Gary Whitta (The Book of Eli), and apparently it may star Jaden Smith. There’s no word on what the film is about – aside from the fact that it’s a big sci-fi project – but they say there’s also a “meaty” role for an adult, though Will Smith (who’s helping to produce) won’t play the part. Sorry Smith fans, but no father-son reunion here.

Do you think it’s a good idea for M. Night to direct a film that he didn’t write, or is he a more fascinating filmmaker when he writes his own projects? What do you think?
