Danger, danger, Bruce Wayne! We might be approaching Joel Schumacher territory if this latest Bat-rumor comes to fruition!
What’s the scoop? Variety is reporting that pop sensation Justin Timberlake talked about the Batman film series on Fresh 102.7 FM’s “Jim & Kim Show,” and was asked if he’d ever consider playing Robin opposite Ben Affleck’s new Batman. (Ironically, the two will share the screen in this fall’s Runner, Runner, so a future collaboration isn’t out of the question.)
Faster than you can say “Sexy Back,” though, J.T. shot that idea out of the sky.
“Not a chance in hell. I ain’t playing Robin. I have no aspiration to ever be a superhero in a movie,” said Timberlake, who has starred in several movies over the course of his career and has a supporting part in Joel and Ethan Coen’s upcoming Inside Llewyn Davis.
But Timberlake didn’t shut the door entirely. In fact, he lobbed this fanboy grenade.
“Now, a villain! I’ll tell you the villain I want to play more than anything because I grew up loving Batman, funnily enough, is the Riddler. The Riddler is my favorite villain,” Timberlake said. “The Riddler was like a sociopath. He was proper crazy. So if I’m gonna play crazy, I’m wanna play proper crazy.”
Timberlake as the Riddler? It’s not a bad idea. Christopher Nolan avoided the mysterious villain in his trilogy, though, so the freshest image we have of Edward Nygma in a Batman movie is this:
Granted, Zack Snyder likely isn’t planning on going as campy as Schumacher in his Batman-Superman movie. And from what we’ve heard, if a Batman movie makes the cut, it will be the Joker possibly teaming up with Lex Luthor.
But if producers wanted to cast the immensely talented Timberlake in a Batman movie, at the very least it means they could bring back Prince’s “Batdance!”
