Since Academy Award-winning actress Meryl Streep signed on to portray the former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, there’s been a slight buzz that the actress may contend for an Oscar nomination next year. Of course, this speculation was presumably based on Streep’s acting resume that includes 16 Oscar nominations and that actors who previously portrayed prominent British figures scored gold statuettes at Hollywood’s big show (like Colin Firth for last year’s The King’s Speech and Helen Mirren in 2006’s The Queen).
