After a few comparatively uneventful weeks, Hollywood became the setting for a week of frenetic activity with new movies getting big-name actors, a slew of poster and trailer premieres and your random Mrs. Doubtfire tattoo. Let’s take a look back at the busy week in (deep breath) movie news, rumors, posters, pics, trailers and exclusive interviews for Real Steel and The Ides of March.

News
 
According to Hitfix, Johnny Depp’s next role will be Dr. Seuss in a biopic about the prolific and beloved author. Universal and Illumination Entertainment are saying that Depp is currently attached to what will be a serious drama about, "the life and creative output of this man who helped shaped the early imaginary lives of 50 years worth of kids."
 
Director Pete Travis has been asked to step aside as Dredd (the reboot of the 1995 Slyvester Stallone dud Judge Dredd) enters post-production. 
 
Martin Scorsese and Francis Ford Coppola may have embraced 3D technology, but Bernardo Bertolucci finds it “vulgarly commercial,” and has ditched the format for his next movie. 
 
Aaron Eckhart will play Frankenstein in I, Frankenstein.
 
Javier Bardem has been cast as the lead villain in Despicable Me 2
 
Marvel announced the first trailer for The Avengers will arrive online sometime Tuesday.
 
Since there’s not enough reboots floating around out there, Zorro is getting rebooted with TV producer/writers Matthew Federman and Stephen Scaia penning the script. Here’s hoping it turns out better than the current Charlie’s Angels TV reboot.
 
That Snoop Dogg family comedy pilot mentioned a couple weeks ago? Yep, NBC picked it up. Welcome to the family Snoop. 
 
Fox2000 has acquired the rights to Mr. Ed. Here’s hoping the reboot is more Babe and less Revenge of Kitty Galore.
 
Robert Downey Jr. has teamed with Warner Bros. to bring famous TV movie/series defense counsel Perry Mason to the big screen.
 
The Simpsons and Dexter faced the threat of cancelation if their production budgets aren’t cut. Fox is asking the voice actors of The Simpsons to take a 45% pay cut while Harry Shearer, who voices Mr. Burns among others, has said he’d be willing to take a 70% pay cut to keep the show going. Late Friday afternoon, FOX re-newed The Simpsons for two more seasons, guaranteeing the show a 25th seaon on-air. No word yet on Dexter.
 
The Coen Bros. will executive produce an hour-long single-camera comedy for FOX. 
 
Hinging on the success of The Lion King 3D, Disney will convert four more movies for 3D re-releases. The Little Mermaid, Finding Nemo, Monsters Inc. and Beauty and the Beast will all enter the third dimension.
 
 
Jason Statham is currently in talks to join the cast of Fast Six and Fast Seven, which look to shoot back-to-back in Europe.
 
Anna Faris says that she wants to be in Scary Movie 5, stating that the character is so dumb that it’s fun to play that role. And because both of her 2011 movies bombed. 
 
Blake Lively has passed in the lead role in Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.
 
Keifer Sutherland says the 24 movie script is almost complete. He delivered the message in a hushed, grumbly voice to ensure whoever the mole is that’s been keeping this movie from hitting theaters wouldn’t hear. Cue ominous orange digital clock countdown… 
 
Mattel is currently developing a Rock ‘Em Sock ‘em Robots movie, and no, we’re not talking about Real Steel.
 
Universal Solider is the latest action movie to be adapted into a TV series. 
 
Kevin Sorbo revealed that he hid having three strokes while filming the Hercules TV show back in the 90’s.
 
 
Rumors
 
 
The upcoming James Bond movie, which has run under the title James Bond 23, appears to have received its official title – Skyfall. This was deduced after Sony and Columbia Pictures bought up a bunch of web domain names with the aforementioned title in it. no confirmation from the studios though.
 
Toy Story writers Alec Sokolow and Joel Cohen have revealed to IGN that they are currently in talks to pen a film based on the popular Zynga game Farmville. Zynga has refused to comment and the project has not been formally announced yet, but two scribes from Toy Story say they’re writing a script, its most likely happening.
