Iron Man 2 It ain’t easy being Number Two, and plenty of critics and fans alike knocked this second Iron Man outing from Robert Downey Jr. and director Jon Favreau for suffering from typical sequelitis: Too much bombast, not enough story. That may be true, but give it a chance. The movie is still a roaring good time—just set the bar a little lower. Here, Tony Stark is a bit of a downer—the contraption that keeps him alive is releasing a chemical that’s slowly killing him. We meet a plethora of new characters: S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), villain Whiplash (Mickey Rourke), Sam Rockwell as Stark’s evil nemesis, and even Sam L. Jackson pops in to offer some expository explanations. Get Him to the Greek If Russell Brand’s out-there humor is mostly Greek to you, it’s doubtful this movie, in which he reprises his Forgetting Sarah Marshall Brit rocker Aldous Snow, will sway you over. But if you like your comedies Apatow-esque (raunchy, sweet and starring hapless overweight shlubs) with a healthy dose of gross-out humor and drugs galore, queue this one up. Jonah Hill stars as a young record exec tasked with getting Snow to L.A. for an anniversary show, but it’s harder work than he thinks thanks to roadblocks that include Snow’s wackjob ex-wife, even wackier washed-out father, groupies, Lars Ulrich, a nonstop stream of alcohol and something called a “Jeffrey.” Look for Sean “P. Diddy” Combs in a truly standout-rageous performance as a record company exec. King Kong (1933) RKO’s original classic ape-loves-woman story gets remastered and Fay Wray’s more suggestive scenes restored in this Blu-ray release that will be sure to delight the 4:3 fans in your house. It comes with 32 pages of rare photos and trivia in a collectible book; feature-length doc on Kong’s creator; commentary by Ray Harryhausen; and a 7-part doc on the making of the film. It may not have aged well, but Kong’s groundbreaking effects broke new ground and set the stage for future special effects development.
