Walt Disney Studios may have partnered with Marvel – a deal that’s proving lucrative for all parties – but that isn’t the studio's only planned foray into superhero storytelling.

Today, Disney teased concept art and footage for its upcoming Big Hero 6, an animated feature-film adaptation it plans to have in theaters by 2014. Dive right in:

That is San Fransokyo, a futuristic setting where brilliant robotics prodigy Hiro Hamada, according to the studio’s official logline, “finds himself in the grips of a criminal plot that threatens to destroy the fast-paced, high-tech city. … With the help of his closest companion — a robot named Baymax — Hiro joins forces with a reluctant team of first-time crime fighters on a mission to save their city.”

The animated feature will draw inspiration from the popular Marvel comics series of the same name. The team has been around since 1998, and it will be interesting to see how the partnership between Marvel and Disney leads to the creations of franchises that exist outside of The Avengers and that series’ assorted spinoffs.

Presented in 3D, Big Hero 6 plans to be in theaters on Nov. 7, 2014. What do you think of the short clip and the following concept art imagery?
