Tusk / The Fly / The Human Centipede

Experimental scientists are driven to come up with new solutions to old problems, using whatever means necessary to achieve their goals for the betterment of mankind. Sometimes, though, experiments take very strange turns, and sometimes the scientists themselves do not have the purest of motives. What happens then? Allow the handful of movies below to illustrate the deadliest experiments in recent horror-movie history.

Tusk (2014)

Little does disreputable podcaster Wallace (Justin Long) know that an eccentric recluse (Michael Parks) who offers to tell him fascinating stories is actually a devious misanthrope with bizarre plans to experiment upon poor Wallace.

The Human Centipede (2009)

A mad doctor kidnaps unsuspecting tourists and performs a very unpleasant experiment upon them, stiching them together surgically with the aim of creating something entirely new. That's only the beginning of the experimental horrors experienced by the hapless victims.

Planet Terror (2007)

In the strictest definition, what happens in this movie is not the result of an experiment gone wrong. Instead, it shows the dangers of developing a biochemical agent without knowing the effect it will have upon humans. In this case, when a chemical engineer unleashes a deadly new gas into the air, it transforms every unfortunate victim into a ravenous zombie. Uh...oops?

The Fly (1986)

Brilliant scientist Seth Brundle (Jeff Goldblum) is developing machines that enable teleportation, and he wants to take his experiments to the next level: teleporting living human flesh. Sadly for Seth, a misunderstanding with his new lover Veronica (Geena Davis) prompts him to make a fairly unwise experiment that leaves him buzzing.

From Beyond (1986)

Director Stuart Gordon's followup to Re-Animator explores a different type of scientific experiment. Dr. Tillinghast (Jeffrey Combs) is tempted by a machine called the Resonator, invented by his mentor, which appears to show another reality within our own world that has never before been seen by man. But he's not the only one tempted by the experimental possibilities offered by the machine, as this clip shows.
