From the looks of it, Marvel is having a heckuva hard time finding their Captain America. A few different reports have hit the net today, including one from Heat Vision that claims the Captain American short list now includes about seven different actors who've all been asked to test for the role. They are: John Krasinski (who you know as Jim from The Office), Michael Cassidy (The O.C., Smallville), Scott Porter (Caprica, Speed Racer), Chace Crawford (um, Gossip Girl all the way!) and Mike Vogel (Cloverfield, She's Out of My League). According to Heat Vision, Marvel wants to test these actors this week and try to determine from there who they should cast as Captain America.

John Krasinski

Meanwhile, Cinematical claims through an anonymous source that Krasinski is the strong frontrunner, and that he's the one they want for the role. Of course, truth be told, there's no way of knowing what's really going on behind closed doors unless, well, you're the person standing behind the closed door. Chances are good, though, that one of these guys will become our next Captain America.

What does this list tell us? Well, it's pretty obvious that Marvel is interested in a lesser-known actor who's worked predominantly in television. Krasinski is probably the most well known, and while you may roll your eyes at the choice (can Krasinski really kick butt?), remember that no one liked the decision to cast Heath Ledger as the Joker – not to mention that folks were a little wary of Robert Downey Jr. playing Iron Man.

I have faith that Marvel knows what they're doing, and I think that whoever they choose will be the right man for the job. What about you? Which of these guys would you like to see play Captain America?
