Having a bad Friday, guys? This will cheer you up: Scarlett Johansson will portray Janet Leigh in Alfred Hitchcock and the Making of Pyscho… That is all that needs to be said. You're welcome.
Though a Muppets sequel is on the way, Jason Segel will not be writing it. The actor will instead be busy promoting a pair of comedies (The Five-Year Engagement and This is Forty) as well as fulfilling his commitment to the CBS sitcom How I Met Your Mother. Director James Bobin and The Muppets co-writer, Nicholas Stoller will handle script duties.
In addition to returning to theaters sometime next year in 3D, the sequel to the mid-'80s Tom Cruise flick Top Gun is making some progress. Peter Craig, who penned the adaptation for the Oscar nominated The Town, will work on the script. No word on whether this new Top Gun will focus on the same group of hotshots from the original movie or introduce a new squad of fighter pilots, but Cruise has expressed interest in appearing in the sequel.
Three actresses are currently the leading candidates to portray the recently deceased Whitney Houston in a rumored biopic of the late singer. Rihanna, Jennifer Hudson and Vivica Fox are said to be the front-runners with Will Smith's daughter, Willow, possibly playing Whitney as a child. No word on if this movie is even going to happen as biopic rumors seem to be a trend following the death of a famous individual.
We're giving away a pair of tickets to the New York premiere of Silent House. For those of you who just scrunched your head in bewilderment as to what Silent House is, it's a new horror thriller starring rising star Elizabeth Olsen that was shot in one entire take. Sound like fun? Here's how to win.
Speaking of Ms. Olsen, the youngest Olsen sibling has been offered the female lead role in Spike Lee's remake of the Korean revenge flick Oldboy. Josh Brolin has been set to star as the lead for a while now. The female lead was previously offered to Mia Wasikowska and Rooney Mara, both of whom turned it down.
We know The Hunger Games is poised to be a huge hit this spring, but just how massive will its box office be? The survive-or-die film's advanced ticketing has already shattered the previous record held by Twilight: Eclipse. Can Games surpass Breaking Dawn Part I's $281 million or Deathly Hallows Part II's $381 million domestic haul?
Titanic sails back into theaters next month after having undergone 3D conversion. We take a look at five things that we're dying to see in Titanic 3D, and yes, the iceberg is one of them.
A while back, there were rumors that a sequel and/or reboot to National Lampoon's Vacation was in the works, then, nothing until this week when Horrible Bosses scribes jumped on board to direct the reboot sequel. The big question, of course, is how good can a Vacation movie be without Chevy Chase's Clark Griswold?
You know how much you've been waiting to watch a movie that set to the theme of Beach Boys songs? Well, apparently someone in Hollywood thinks you've been pining for such a thing and they've given the director's chair to The Vow's Michael Sucsy. Cue the John Stamos cameo.
We're not going to beat you over the head with a bunch of Oscars recap. Instead, jump over to our Awards Watch Guide (and hit the "like" icon while you're there) to catch up on all the Academy Awards festivities from last Sunday.
Ghostbusters fans, it is official. Bill Murray will not star in Ghostbusters 3. Of course, we all suspected that since Murray continued to ignore the script that Dan Akyroyd had been pitching to him. Plus he's Bill Murray and has a good shot at being nominated for Best Actor at next year's Academy Awards for portraying F.D.R. in Hyde Park on Hudson.
Emma Watson continues to lock down acting gigs post-Potter. She's set to hit the screen next in The Perk of Being a Wallflower and this week, locked in the lead role in Sophia Coppola's The Bling Ring. The movie is inspired by a real-life story of a gang of teenage burglars.
Jonah Hill and James Franco will star in True Story, a movie about a journalist accused of falsifying a story about an accused murderer. The film will be produced by Brad Pitt's production company, Plan B. While financing still needs to be locked down, it looks like Hill is continuing to branch out from the comedy genre with another dramatic role.
Mila Kunis is set to go to Hell & Back. She'll star opposite Nick Swardson, Rob Riggle and TJ Miller in the R-rated stop motion animated comedy about two best friends who rescue their buddy who has been accidentally dragged to Hell. Kunis will play " a female demon whose ability to navigate the underworld makes her the toughest rogue demon in Hell."
Remember a while back when Dan Brown novels were like movie gold? The Da Vinci Code, Angels & Demons, the guy was unstoppable. Then The Lost Symbol happened and his stock cooled faster than Robert Langdon in a de-pressurized library chamber. Now Danny Strong, who wrote Recount and Game Change is giving it a shot and has been hired by Sony to draft a script for Symbol. We'll keep you posted on if Sony greenlights the project or send it back into the cryptic world of development hell.
Bruce Willis will headlineFive Against a Bullet for Columbia Pictures. That's pretty much all that needs to be said. What, you want plot details? Bullet centers on a Mexican politician who hires the five best bodyguards from around the world to protect him during a contentious election. Sounds like more work for Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren and Jean Claude Van-Damme!
