Having been in development for quite some time, the remake to The Toxic Avenger may be close to landing an unexpected lead actor.
Arnold Schwarzenegger is in talks to play “a lead role” in the film, Variety reports, though Arnold will not play the title character.
The original film from 1984 was set in the small American town of Tromaville, New Jersey. Among the citizens of Tromaville was a nerdy janitor at a local health club named Melvin. After a gang of thugs devise a cruel hoax that goes horribly wrong, Melvin is tossed into a vat of hazardous waste. Instead of killing him, the chemicals take hold of his body and Melvin transforms into the Toxic Avenger.
The original film spawned two forgettable sequels in 1989 and a fourth film in 2000 titled Citizen Toxie. Meanwhile, Schwarzenegger is still looking for his first hit after returning to the acting world full-time following his political run in California. The actor starred in The Last Stand earlier this year - a mediocre hit, if that.
Schwarzenegger is keeping busy though having just wrapped up Ten with co-star Sylvester Stallone. He’s got a handful of sequel and prequels that he is attached to including The Legend of Conan, Triplets (a sequel to Twins) and Terminator 5.
Do you think Arnold might play the mayor of Tromaville? Perhaps the bad guy Cigar Face? Sound off below!
