What is Vh1’s Planet Rock: The Story Of Hip Hop And The Crack Generation about?
PLANET ROCK is a feature documentary about the crack epidemic of the 1980s and early 1990s, and its impact on American popular culture. Produced by Vh1 and Executive Producer Ice-T, PLANET ROCK looks back at the crack era and tells the story of how that period shaped popular culture through hip-hop. It also widens the lens to examine the drug’s impact on media, politics, individual lives, families and communities. Having worked for all the major broadcasters in the UK, Richard Lowe came to the US in 1999 and since then has accumulated a diverse range of credits in documentary film and television, including Vh1’s award-winning series And You Don’t Stop: 30 years of Hip Hop; The Drug Years; and Sex: the Revolution. Planet Rock is his first production of the newly formed Prodigious Media, with partner Martin Torgoff.
