Set in 1977 Tunis, the film tells the story of a law professor, Khalil Kalsaoui, who is asked by the ruling party to defend it at the country’s brand-new Human Rights League in a period of tension between the Tunisian government and the syndicates. Meanwhile, he hears that one of his students, Houda, with whom he is having an affair, has been arrested in the south of the country along with two Italian journalists. When she is arrested for her political views and opposition to authorities, Khalil attempts to defend her – and soon finds his career and personal life in jeopardy. The film itself is a document of the revolution – shooting was repeatedly stopped during Ben Ali’s rule and could only be finished after the success of the revolution.
