Synopsis

THE MAN WHO WOULD BE KING, 1975, Warner Bros., 129 min. Director John Huston adapts Rudyard Kipling’s fable. Ex-soldiers Michael Caine and Sean Connery trek to far-off Kafiristan to set-up their own kingdom, pulling it off with outlandish lies and sheer nerve. But their arrogance has a price. With Christopher Plummer, Saeed Jaffrey.

DAMN THE DEFIANT, 1962, Sony Repertory, 101 min. Lewis Gilbert (Alfie) directs this adventure that has the intense character study of Billy Budd and the epic sea battles of Captain Horatio Hornblower. Alec Guinness, Captain of HMS Defiant, is sabotaged by sadistic First Lieutenant Dirk Bogarde who stokes the fire of a mutinous crew press-ganged into service during the war with France. Flawlessly acted, with expertly orchestrated naval combat.
