At the dawn of the Bolshevik Revolution, newly formed ranks of secret police, the Cheka, exterminate "enemies" of the new regime: Christians, aristocrats, Jews, intellectuals. Andrey (Igor Sergeyev) is the head of the lethal group, and he coldly condemns a daily influx of prisoners to anonymous death. As the corpses pile up, killing becomes his business, and life on the firing squad is just another job. But, as Andrey's conscience chips slowly away at his resolve, he descends into madness.
