John Wilmot, also known as the Earl of Rochester, is a 17th-century poet who found posthumous success. He was known for his womanizing ways, drinking and unruly behavior. This behavior helped him to an early grave, most likely from syphilis. Along the way, Wilmot wrote some arguably brilliant poetry that was not appreciated until after his death. The film looks at his life and exposes the dichotomy of his vagrancy and genius.
