Biography
An incredibly versatile character actor, Kevin Rankin's diverse career in film and television has him playing everything from sympathetic leads to villains. Born in Baton Rouge, the young Rankin was a big fan of action movies and TV shows, particularly "The Fall Guy" (ABC 1981-86), and wanted to be a stuntman until he realized the series star Lee Majors was just an actor playing a stuntman. After a side step towards performing, he made his screen debut in "The Apostle" (1997) and while his character was only credited as 'Young Man in Car,' all his scenes were opposite the star of the film, Robert Duvall. This led to a larger role in the film "Clean and Narrow" (1999), which helped Rankin decided to take the profession seriously, moving to Los Angeles in 2000. The same year he landed his first TV job on "Buffy The Vampire Slayer" (WB 1997-2003). It was a good move as soon Rankin was working regularly on both the big and small screen including a four-episode run on Judd Apatow's critically-acclaimed college comedy "Undeclared" (Fox, 2001-02), eleven episodes of "My Guide to Becoming a Rock Star" (WB, 2002) and Ang Lee's big-screen adaptation of Marvel comics hero "Hulk" (2003). He continued to work consistently popping up in "The O.C." (Fox 2003-07), "Without a Trace" (CBS 2002-09) and "Six Feet Under" (HBO 2001-05) before landing the role of Herc, a wheelchair bound former football player, in Texas high school drama "Friday Night Lights" (NBC/101 Network 2006-2011) from 2006-2008. This was followed by regular TV work, including a recurring role in the short-lived reboot of "Bionic Woman" (NBC 2007). His next major role was Tyler Briggs on medical drama "Trauma" (NBC 2009-2010); while working on this show, he met and married co-star Jill Farley. He proved that he could be a chilling villain when he played a white supremacist for a recurring role in the western-style police drama "Justified" (FX 2010-) before landing a similar part in "Breaking Bad" (AMC 2008-2013) shortly after.
