Biography
Actor Andy Umberger started out appearing in small guest roles in television series during the 1990s but is best known for his work in all three of TV creator Joss Whedon's shows. During the middle and late 1990s, Umberger appeared in several popular television series, including the crime drama"Law & Order," the legal drama "The Practice," and the teen drama"Party of Five," before landing a recurring role as the villain D'Hoffryn in Joss Whedon's first series, the cult horror series "Buffy the Vampire Slayer." Umberger played the role of D'Hoffryn from the show's inception in 1999 to 2002, while also appearing as a guest star in Whedon's spinoff project, "Angel." Shortly after Umberger ended his stint on "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," he began working with Whedon again, this time on the sci-fi series "Firefly." He would continue to guest star on TV during the 2000s with parts in the hit thriller series "24," the procedural crime drama "NCIS: Naval Criminal Investigation Service," and the military drama "The Unit," before earning a more regular recurring role as Dr. Arnold Wayne on AMC's instant classic, "Mad Men," in 2007. Umberger's relentless work on television eventually led to more film work in the late 2000s and early 2010s, including a role starring alongside Johnny Depp in the film based upon Hunter S. Thompson's novel "The Rum Diary" in 2011.
