What is NT Live - Phèdre about?

This July, City Cinemas participates in NT Live, a new initiative of London's National Theatre to screen live performances in cinemas around the world. Recorded live in London on June 25, Racine's Phèdre, starring Oscar-winning actress Helen Mirren, will be re-broadcast in high-definition at Cinemas 123 and Village East Cinema. In Phèdre, Mirren plays a women consumed by an uncontrollable passion for her young stepson. Believing Theseus, her absent husband, to be dead, she confesses her darkest desires and enters the world of nightmare. When Theseus returns, alive and well, Phèdre, fearing exposure, accuses her stepson of rape. The result is carnage.
