Nevada (Gary Cooper), is ordered to protect a rancher's daughter Thelma (Thelma Todd), making the foreman (William Powell) jealous. To break up the budding romance, the foreman tells the sheriff Nevada is wanted, forcing him to go on the run. As he flees the hangman's noose, Nevada stumbles upon a gang of cattle rustlers led by the crooked foreman. He does the right thing and finds the sheriff, helping him bust the crooks earning him a pardon and Thelma's hand in marriage.
