- What is Music Monday: The Hunger about?
- Long before TWILIGHT made it hip to fall in love with a vampire, there was Whitley Streiber's 1981 novel THE HUNGER, which emphasized the "lust" in bloodlust and equated the vampire's insatiable appetite with the overpowering, all-consuming desires of junkies to feed their addiction. Vampire queen Miriam (Cathering Deneuve) subsists upon the blood of her lovers. For years she has been enjoying the pleasures of her boy toy, John (David Bowie), until she finds herself growing tired of him. As Miriam slowly casts him aside, John finds himself wasting away as his lover has turned her sights onto a new flame, the incredibly sexy Dr. Sarah Roberts (Susan Sarandon). Cold blue lights, skin-tight black leather, sinuous streams of cigarette smoke, writhing bodies, clouds of stage fog and blasts of blood combine to make a worthy tribute to the undying power of Bowie.
