We all know Luke, Leia, Han and Chewie, but who are the other key players in the ‘Star Wars’ universe? The people (or otherwise) who’ve had our heroes' backs through thick and thin and without whom it might've spelled doom for the Rebellion? Here’s a who’s who.

12. COMMANDER D'ACY

Thrust into prominence after she becomes the new commander of the Resistance fleet, Larma D'Acy quickly proves that she has the right stuff in the face of daunting dangers. Her leadership skills confirm that Leia Organa's instincts were spot-on when she personally recruited D'Acy to the Resistance.

11. SNAP WEXLEY

He's called 'Snap' for a reason: he's the best recon flier in the Starfighter Corps. His family roots stretch back to the Battle of Endor, in which his father piloted a rebel Y-wing to victory. Thanks to his reconnaissance of Starkiller Base, the Resistance is empowered to destroy a superweapon vital to the First Order.

10. Admiral Ackbar

The highest ranking general in the Rebel Alliance, Admiral Ackbar led the attack on the second Death Star. Although the mission was ultimately a trap, his level head under fire brought the Rebels to victory and kept casualties to a minimum.

9. Wicket

This inquisitive little Ewok was instrumental in the Ewoks joining forces with the Rebel Alliance during the Battle for Endor. Small in size and facing forces beyond their technological understanding, the Ewoks -- Wicket in particular -- proved why you never count out the underdog.

8. Senator Bail Organa

While Senator Organa is more known for the exploits of his adopted daughter, Princess Leia Organa, the senator was an outspoken force of democracy in the Republic Senate. Without his aid, Luke and Leia may have had very different fates!

7. Mon Mothma

In a universe where women can seemingly only be dancers and princesses, Mon Mothma proves that ‘Star Wars’ has no glass ceiling. Delivering the briefing before the Battle of Endor and of the second Death Star, Mon Mothma is clearly the brains behind the Rebel Alliance.

6. Queen Amidala’s Decoy

While little is known about Queen Amidala’s decoy, Queen Amidala ruled over one of the most hotly contested planets in the galaxy and faced constant attempts on her life. Her decoy fought by her side in retaking Naboo’s palace and sacrificed herself in an explosive assassination attempt on Coruscant.

5. Lando Calrissian

After selling out his friend Han to the Empire, Lando spent the rest of his life making up for it by saving the Rebels in Cloud City, infiltrating Jabba’s palace to rescue Han, and leading the Battle of the second Death Star by flying the 'Millennium Falcon.'

4. Dexter Jettster

This fat, oddly sinister alien might seem like a strange choice, but when a planet disappears from your memory banks, sometimes you need a good informant. Without Dexter Jettster's knowledge of the underworld, Obi-Wan may never have discovered the cloning facility on Kamino. Not bad for a fry cook, huh?

3. Wedge Antilles

Where would the Rebel Alliance be without Wedge Antilles? He was pivotal in the Battle of the Death Star, rescued Luke and Han on Hoth, was a key support in the Battle of Hoth, and his X-wing destroyed the second Death Star. Though his big-screen time was limited, he was a big player in the ancillary ‘Star Wars’ universe.

2. Boss Rugor Nass

Forgiveness can be hard to come by, especially when your lifelong enemy is asking for it. Boss Nass proved his value as Gungan ruler by putting aside his differences with Queen Amidala and aiding her in repelling the Trade Federation from Naboo.

1. Female X-wing Pilot (Cut)

Did you know that ‘A New Hope’ had female X-wing pilots? Most don’t, as they never made the finale cut of the movie. Still, we like to think they were clutch in helping Luke to blow up the Death Star and go home. That’s the very definition of an unsung hero!
