"Behind every great man, there's a great woman," and that's especially true of 'Welcome to Marwen,' a tale of Mark Hogencamp's (Steve Carell) journey to healing following a vicious attack by immersing himself in a WWII fantasy world of his own creation. Creating the Belgium village of "Marwen" in his backyard, he populated it with all the tough women who guided him through his darkest hour. This is a tribute to them, the finest platoon of the greatest generation.

Anna, the Soviet

Gwendoline Christie plays Anna, the equally impregnable Soviet soldier in Marwen. There are few details of who Anna is in "the real world," but expect her to fit the classic Russian mold: strong, unshakable and fierce. If anyone can teach Mark to stand his ground when all seems lost, it's her.

Roberta, heavy artillery

Roberta (Merritt Wever) is the tough-talkin', dirty-fightin', and in-your-face-blunt heavy artillery expert. Roberta seems to be modeled after one of Mark's coworkers at his day job, someone who shakes up his routine and doesn't let him rest on his laurels.

Carlala, the driver

When you need somewhere quick, you need Carlala (Eiza Gonzalez), the sassy driver of Mark's platoon. As Mark's motor skills were destroyed in his beating, Carlala is likely his driver to and from real-world appointments. More, she's a constant source of encouragement for him to go out and face his fears head-on.

G.I. Julie, the veteran

Who better to guide the team than Mark's military rehab instructor, Julie (Janelle Monae)? Julie's a tough-as-nails combat veteran doll who teaches Mark to embrace and fight through pain on the way to recovery and victory. With her strategic know-how, the mission's already half-done.

Suzette, French Resistance

Leslie Zemeckis plays Suzette, a member of the French Resistance hiding out in Marwen. While much of her character is still under wraps, she appears to be an expert on espionage and sabotage. It's unknown what her role in Mark Hogencamp's life is, but she undoubtedly was a great support to him in his darkest days.

Nicol, the New Recruit

Nicol (Leslie Mann) may be the newest recruit, but she's the heart and soul of the team. Fashioned after a USO performer, Nicol has an effervescent personality and uses theatrics to get the mission done. In the land of flesh and blood, Nicol is Mark's new neighbor, with whom he shares the secret of his town.

Dejah Thoris

Who is Dejah Thoris? The doll whose name was inspired by 'John Carter' stories may not have appeared in any of 'Welcome to Marwen's' marketing yet, but the doll might just be the lynchpin to Mark's recovery, especially as she isn't based on anyone in Mark's life…
