'The Lego Movie'’s self-proclaimed breakout star, Batman, aka Bruce Wayne (voiced by Will Arnett), is back to fight crime in this weekend’s 'The Lego Batman Movie.' Here’s a guide to some of the Lego-sized DC Comics heroes and villains our one-and-a-half-inch caped crusader will encounter.
THE JOKER (Zach Galifianakis)
If you thought Gotham City was safe, the joke’s on you because Batman’s number one enemy, the Joker, is back to wreak havoc with a wisecrack. Traditionally played by Hollywood’s most intense dramatic actors (Jack Nicholson, Heath Ledger, Jared Leto), 'Lego Batman'’s Joker will have a more comic bent, thanks to hilarious voice work by funnyman Zach Galifianakis.
ROBIN (Michael Cera)
Batman is used to fighting crime by himself, but in his first big-screen adventure, the lone vigilante will need the help of sidekick Robin, aka Dick Grayson, to stop the Joker. What this Robin lacks in natural fighting skills he more than makes up for in enthusiasm and excitement. Everyone’s favorite boyish superhero sidekick will be voiced by boyish 'Superbad' star Michael Cera.
HARLEY QUINN (Jenny Slate)
Batman’s not the only one in Gotham City with a sidekick. The Joker’s got his own mischievous right-hand lady in one Miss Harley Quinn. To pull off his sinister silly schemes, Joker relies on Harley to help distract Batman and Robin with her wily, wisecracking ways. Quinn will be voiced by Jenny Slate, who previously lent her vocal charms to the animated family hits 'Zootopia' and 'The Secret Life of Pets.'
BATGIRL (Rosario Dawson)
Batman’s got girl power on his side, too, thanks to the police commissioner's daughter, Barbara Gordon, aka Batgirl (Rosario Dawson, who previously voiced DC heroine Wonder Woman in last year’s 'Justice League vs. Teen Titans'). Batgirl is the perfect Bat-person to help Batman stop Gotham’s most lethal lawbreakers!
ALFRED (Ralph Fiennes)
Oscar nominee Ralph Fiennes is the latest in a long line of acclaimed British actors -- including Oscar winners Michael Caine and Jeremy Irons -- to portray Alfred Pennyworth, Bruce Wayne’s eternally loyal and long-suffering butler. It’s Alfred’s job to keep Batman safe with his wise British counsel.
MAYOR McCASKILL (Mariah Carey)
One of Mariah Carey’s most famous songs is “Hero,” which is exactly what the singer’s Lego Batman character Mayor McCaskill will need when the Joker sets off a new crime wave in Gotham City. Let’s just hope there are no “technical difficulties” when she addresses the people of Gotham.
TWO-FACE (Billy Dee Williams)
Williams originally played the part of Harvey Dent (aka Two-Face) in Tim Burton’s 1989 blockbuster 'Batman' but, for reasons still unclear Williams was not asked back to reprise the role in 1995’s 'Batman Forever.' 'Lego Batman' gives Williams the long-overdue chance to reprise the famous villain and, frankly, we can’t wait to hear Lando do Lego.
OTHER HEROES AND VILLAINS
The makers of 'The Lego Batman Movie' are keeping its remaining heroes and villains a mystery until the movie hits theaters February 10, but, if you want a clue as to which other DC Comics characters might show up, take a closer look at the theatrical poster, which hints that the heroic Superman, the Flash and Wonder Woman, along with the villainous Riddler, Penguin and Poison Ivy might be getting in on the action.
