With the release of ‘Ted 2,’ we’ve been thinking about other famous comedy sequels. Some have been great. Some… not so great. And many more are simply never going to happen. But we can dream! Read on.

Tropic Thunder 2

We’d love to see Ben Stiller, Jack Black and especially Robert Downey Jr. (as extreme method actor Kirk Lazarus) satirize Hollywood vanity again. A spin-off starring Tom Cruise as lunatic studio exec Les Grossman was talked about a few years ago, but nothing’s come of it so far.

Spaceballs: Episode I

Mel Brooks’ 1987 ‘Star Wars’ parody is a classic, and he could easily send up the ‘Star Wars’ prequels. But alas, these days he’s too busy producing Broadway musicals based on his old movies. Perhaps he could do one for ‘Spaceballs’?

History of the World, Part II

Speaking of Brooks, his 1981 ‘History of the World, Part I’ only took us up to the 18th century. A ‘Part II’ would be a no-brainer. But the director, as usual, was just pulling our leg with his ‘Part I’ title. He never intended to make a sequel.

Who Framed Roger Rabbit? 2

‘Roger Rabbit’ was such a smash in 1988 that talk of sequels was rampant. (One pitch had the hyperactive toon enlisting in World War II.) It's been said that Steven Spielberg, who co-owns the characters, lost interest. P-p-p-please reconsider!

Happy Gilmore 2

The recent video in which Adam Sandler and Bob Barker continued their feud from the 1996 ‘Gilmore’ has us hungry for more. We could also go for a ‘Billy Madison’ sequel. Seriously, Sandler, why give us ‘Grown Ups 2’ and not what we want?

The Big Lebowski 2

The Coen brothers don’t do sequels. That didn’t stop a fake news site from deceiving fans in October 2014 with reports of a follow-up to 1998’s ‘Lebowski.’ Even the film’s star Jeff Bridges was excited – and duped. Abide, Dude, abide.

The Princess Bride 2

In an age of Middle-earth movies and ‘Game of Thrones,’ the timing couldn’t be better for a sequel to this beloved 1987 fantasy. Writer William Goldman has said, “I’m desperate to make it and write it and I don’t know how.” We’ll help!

Bridesmaids 2

Despite the success of 2011’s sleeper hit, Kristen Wiig and her cowriter Annie Mumolo nixed a sequel early on. Too bad, because we’d love to see Wiig’s Annie – or even better, Melissa McCarthy’s Megan – prep for her own nuptials.

Elf 2

Will Ferrell turned down $29 million (!) to reprise his role as Buddy from the 2003 comedy, which is now a holiday staple. He claimed he didn’t feel right about it. This makes us wonder how much he got paid to do ‘Anchorman 2.’

Gump & Co.

Wouldn’t it be fun to watch Forrest Gump deal with the 1990s and beyond? After the 1994 film’s success, ‘Forrest Gump’ novelist Winston Groom penned the sequel ‘Gump & Co.’ He’s ready, we’re ready.… We guess Tom Hanks isn’t ready.

Office Space 2

Mike Judge’s 1999 comedy ‘Office Space’ sure connected with a lot of desk jockeys over the years. We’d like to see his take on cubicle life in 2015 – though you could argue that that’s exactly what he’s doing with his current TV series ‘Silicon Valley.’
