Bug Off! Movie Exterminators Who Put the "Raid" in Unafraid
In 'The Boxtrolls,' Archibald Snatcher (Ben Kingsley) joins an illustrious fraternity of exterminators who have graced the silver screen. Here’s a list of some of our favorites.
Stan Beals in 'The Ant Bully' (2006)
Stan (Paul Giamatti) never met a bug he couldn’t beat... that is until he came up against boy-turned-ant Lucas. The misfit exterminator has no choice but to cry uncle after going a few rounds with this mighty ant.
Johnny Rico in 'Starship Troopers' (1997)
Rico took his CO's "everyone fights, no one quits" credo to heart when it came to battling the alien race of bugs known as Arachnids. He scored a major victory when he jumped on the back of a building-sized beetle and performed some surgery with his machine gun and a grenade. That's what you get for messing with Rico's home planet.
Neville Flynn in 'Snakes on a Plane' (2006)
There may be many movie exterminators, but Neville Flynn (Samuel L. Jackson) is the only one who can get the job done at 30,000 feet. Somebody hook this guy up with extra frequent flier miles for the way he gets the *&%$$#@ snakes off the *&%$$#@ plane!
Alex Mathis in 'Big Ass Spider' (2013)
Los Angeles has a spider problem — a really big spider problem. When a massive military strike fails to stop the giant alien spider, clever exterminator Alex Mathis (Greg Grunberg) attacks the butt of the issue with one well-placed shot at the spider’s posterior!
Delbert McClintock in 'Arachnophobia' (1990)
Speaking of guys who were put on the earth to kick some serious spider butt...who can forget 'Arachnophobia'’s Delbert McClintock (John Goodman)? With his own unique kill-or-be-killed approach to doing away with eight-legged foes, he spun a web of laughter across theaters everywhere.
Edgar/Edgar the Bug in 'Men in Black' (1997)
Talk about a cruel case of role reversal: When Vincent D'Onofrio ‘s Edgar stumbles upon the wreckage of an alien craft, the not-so-nice exterminator is turned into a space bug himself.
Peter Venkman, Ray Stantz, Egon Spengler and Winston Zeddmore in 'Ghostbusters' (1984)
When you’ve got bugs of the paranormal variety, who you gonna’ call? The Ghostbusters of course! When it comes to hunting down spooks and specters, no ghost is too big (and no fee is too big) for these wearers of unlicensed, nuclear accelerators on their backs.
Carl Spackler in 'Caddyshack' (1980)
Bill Murray’s exterminator prowess isn’t limited to ghosts. As Carl Spackler, gopher control is his specialty in the comedy classic, 'Caddyshack.' In a movie full of gut-busting laughs, it’s Murray’s battle against the "fuzzy little foreigner" that’s our favorite Cinderella story.
Ellen Ripley in 'Aliens' (1986)
Like we said before, sometime it takes a woman’s touch to exterminate a space alien. As Ellen Ripley, Sigourney Weaver has that touch -- along with a flame thrower and power loader.
Major "Dutch" Schaefer in 'Predator' (1987)
Not to be outdone by the ladies on our list, Major "Dutch" Schaefer (Arnold Schwarzenegger) proves the boys have their own out-of-this-world skills when it comes to battling creatures from space.
Dwayne LaFontant, aka The Germinator, in 'Over the Hedge' (2006)
When the local animals start scavenging the neighborhood for food, it’s time to bring in the big guns. And nobody has bigger guns than Dwayne “The Verminator” LaFontant (Thomas Hayden Church). Whether or not those guns are enough to take down his mischievous muskrat foes? Well, that’s a different story.
John Eastland in 'The Exterminator' (1980)
No bugs here. Just a guy (Robert Ginty) on a crusade to violently clean up the streets of New York. (The movie’s called 'The Exterminator,' how could we leave it off our list?)
Winston “The Wolf” Wolfe in 'Pulp Fiction' (1994)
Sometimes, it’s more than bugs that need to be exterminated. When it’s evidence you need to wipe away, there’s only one person to call -- "The Wolf." And he'll be there to solve your problem in less than nine minutes.
