In anticipation of the upcoming Watchmen DVD (due out July 21st), director Zack Snyder met with press to discuss the hotly-anticipated DVD and Blu-ray release, as well as talk up some of his future projects. Good news and bad news for you fans hoping to watch Snyder's director's cut in theaters. The good news is the cut will hit theaters the weekend before San Diego Comic Con (July 17), but the bad news is it will only play in four cities: New York, Los Angeles, Dallas and Minneapolis. The rest of you will have to wait a few more days to watch the director's cut, which will run 186 minutes long and include scenes not featured in the theatrical version.
Snyder on a 300 sequel: "I know for a fact that Frank [Miller] is writing right now. [He's] drawing away and seems to be knee-deep in it. I think he's going to head back to Greece again and do another reconnaissance … I think we would use the same technology... I don't want it to look too Star Wars-ian... Just from what [Miller] told me, it would be bigger as far as landscape and terrain. We're going to see Athens and the Aegean and other places. There would be an opportunity for bigger visions, though I'd hope for the same aesthetic. The tech we used for '300' was not a revolution. It's basically what the weatherman has. Look, instead of Accuweather it's Sparta... It's going to be the same way, but on crazier steroids." [via Coming Soon]
Snyder on gearing his upcoming all-female actioner Sucker Punch to be more PG-13ish: "If you can make Taken PG-13, you can make this movie PG-13. That's what I believe. Because it's more fantastic. No one really dies in the movie. I think Sucker Punch is a smart movie. It absolutely is challenging, and it's f***ing hardcore. [A]t the end she gets ... it's dark! But it's f***ing actiony like nobody's business. We hope the action we're creating is off the charts, and it's not stupid." [CHUD]
Will you be buying the Watchmen director's cut next month, or will you wait for a bigger (and more expensive) special edition this Christmas?
