Though a lot of us thought Zac Efron would become an action star following his stint in the High School Musical movies, apparently the guy would rather show us his softer, cuddly side first. The former Disney star has the romantic drama Charlie St. Cloud due out this weekend, and now he's in negotiations to star in another romantic drama; this time one from the mind of Nicholas "The Notebook" Sparks.

Zac Efron

Oh yes, Efron (if he signs on) will follow in the footsteps of that other heartthrob, Channing Tatum, by starring in a film called The Lucky One about a former Marine who makes it his mission to find the woman in a photo he was using as his good luck charm while fighting in Iraq. Yup, sounds pretty much like all the other Nicholas Sparks novels … but, hey, these things seem to kill at the box office, so what do I know.

Is this the right move for Efron, though? To go from one romantic drama to another? Personally, I'd love to see the guy take on a quirky, high-concept comedy, or something where he stretches his wings a bit. Playing a heartthrob who looks sad and kisses a lot of girls isn't a real difficult task for the guy. Maybe he can take a cue from girlfriend Vanessa Hudgens and star in a film that really kicks some ass (see: Sucker Punch).

Thoughts on Efron being in too many romantic dramas?
