For all the heroic and dramatic stories that the original Baywatch television series told, what most people remember are the very fit cast members running in slow motion on the beach. The upcoming movie version is definitely not shying away from that reputation, as evidenced by the photos that been released via the social media accounts of the new cast members.
In the latest example, Alexandra Daddario shared a photo via Instagram of herself with costars Kelly Rohrbach and Ilfenesh Hadera in their work attire, along with the caption: "Love working with these incredible ladies. We can save you, we can drink with you and we've been told we're not too hard on the eyes. Welcome to our beach!"
The photo follows on one that Daddario shared last week of herself and Hadera "being badass," as she described in her caption.
Daddario is playing Summer in the movie, the character portrayed by Nicole Eggert in the third and fourth seasons of the TV show. The original Summer dealt with troubling situations before moving to California with her mother and continued to manifest a more serious attitude about life, work and relationships after she become a lifeguard.
Reportedly, the movie is taking a more lighthearted approach, but Daddario can more than pull her weight as an actress if heroic drama is required, as she proved in last year's disaster movie San Andreas, in which she costarred with Dwayne Johnson. Model-turned-actress Rohrbach will likely have a more comic role as C.J. Parker, a character made famous by Pamela Anderson, while Haderas (TV's Billions) will probably straddle comedy and drama as Stephanie Holden (originally played by Alexandra Paul), the love interest for Mitch (Johnson).
Speaking of Johnson, he also recently shared a photo from the set that sheds some light on the movie's intentions.
Johnson captioned the photo: "Our goal with #BAYWATCH is to bring y'all a big, fun, raunchy Rated R action comedy. But, we also go hard core with our action rescues (this kid fell off a pier in extremely rough waves) and pay respect to ocean lifeguards worldwide who are truly the first responders of the beach. As fun and wild as our movie is, it's been a real eye opening experience for me playing this role. Respect."
Seth Gordon (Horrible Bosses) is directing. Baywatch will hit the beach, er, movie theaters on May 19, 2017.
