We thought it would be a battle of the ‘80s remakes this past weekend at the box office, but it was really just a nasty fight between those giant robot boxers looking to repeat and a bunch of kids who just want to get their dance on. In the end, the robots prevailed again (but barely), winning the weekend with $16.3 million to Footloose’s $16.1 million. Guess it wasn’t time for everyone to cut loose.

Sitting all by its lonesome in third place was the week’s other ‘80s remake (okay, fine – prequel), The Thing, which scooped up only $8.8 million because maybe people are waiting till we’re a little closer to Halloween to watch those scary movies. A little bird-watching comedy called The Big Year was a big flop ($3.3 million and 9th place), which is why we’re not including it among today’s polls.

Over at Rotten Tomatoes, the critics dug Footloose, giving it a 72% Fresh rating, though The Thing (like the poorly-received original) fell short with a 33% Rotten rating. But that’s what they thought – now it’s time for your review.
