Since this weekend's box office winner is still being decided due to a photo finish between new releases The Last Exorcism ($21.3 million) and Takers ($21 million), we'll let those two battle it out and instead focus on another new release that was more of a re-release with additional footage. 20th Century Fox decided that this would be a good weekend to re-release Avatar in theaters with roughly 8 minutes of additional footage.

'Avatar' re-release

They figured, heck, if this film is the highest-grossing movie of all time, you bet there's still some money to be made in there somewhere. Plus, after several misses in the 3D department, it might be nice to go watch Avatar on the big screen again, if only to remember what the new 3D is supposed to look (and feel) like. Audiences didn't exactly run back to theaters with open arms, though Avatar 3D Special Edition did manage to wrangle up $4 million to finish in 12th place at the box office. Not bad for a movie that's been on DVD since April.

Naturally, we want to know from those of you who ponied up the 3D bucks to see the film. Was it worth it? Did the extra footage satisfy you, or did you go to see it more to experience the dazzling 3D again than to see the eight minutes of extras? Sound off in our poll below and lets us know what you thought of the Avatar 3D Special Edition in the comments section. Also, we' d be curious to hear if this was your first time seeing the film too.
