What’s The Scoop: Tyler Perry once again returns to the big screen with yet another film based on his beloved Madea character. This time Madea is called upon to help gather the family together to rally around her niece Shirley after she receives bad news regarding her health.
Why It Might Win The Weekend: Tyler Perry’s films always dominate the box office thanks mainly to his massive built-in fanbase. Look for this to do well right out of the gate.
My Prediction: Even though Tyler Perry is bound to do decent business with Madea’s Big Happy Family, I’m still going to go with Rio for the win.
My Pick of the Week: Arriving in limited release this weekend is Morgan Spurlock’s The Greatest Movie Ever Sold, a meta-to-the-extreme documentary featuring Spurlock documenting his attempt to pay for his entire movie through sponsorships. While fun and a little corny, the film provides some good insight into the world of product placement, how it helps shape the entertainment industry, and, ultimately, the final product. Check it out.
