If you have children, chances are pretty good that you’ve said the following: “Who’s the grown-up here? Me or you?”

But how many times have you done a double take and really thought to yourself, he (or she) is really acting like a grown-up!

We have six children, and it’s so funny to see them interact with one another, especially when the older children start “acting” like the grown-up. Frank and I were both the oldest children in our families and understand how that comes into play naturally. While it is weird when they act like the grown-up with one another, it’s even stranger when they act like the grown-up with us!

In our family, we love to watch movies where the child acts like a “grown-up.” Our top three favorites are:

1. Big – We all remember the movie Big, right? Where Tom Hanks suddenly goes from a child to a grown man? We love watching this little boy figure out how to be a grown-up in a short amount of time.

2. Home Alone – Another favorite is Macauley Culkin in Home Alone. When this nine-year-old-boy is left behind at home accidentally, he cooks and cleans for himself, and even goes grocery shopping.

3. Matilda – Our final favorite is Mara Wilson in Matilda, where she is definitely the grown-up in an immature family.

Of course there are also movies where the grown-ups act like the kids. On July 12, Grown Ups 2 opened in theaters everywhere. I don’t know about you, but we’re excited to follow along with these “grown-ups” on their adventures and laughing out loud.

In what ways are your kids the grown-ups in the family?
