What to Watch on Vudu

Congratulations! We've made it to the middle of August and we're all still alive, despite the sweltering heat we've all endured. We hope it gets cooler sometime soon, but until then, we have the cooling balm of movies to comfort and invigorate. Have a look at what's new and what's still available to watch at home.

New releases

Dinosaurs pose a clear and present danger to humans in Jurassic World Dominion: Extended Edition, so new heroes Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard welcome assistance from (slightly older) heroes Jeff Goldblum, Laura Dern and Sam Neill. They all share the same goal: peace on Earth and goodwill toward dinosaurs.

In Paws of Fury: The Legend of Hank, a lovable dog (voiced by Michael Cera) receives training from a reluctant samurai master (Samuel L. Jackson) so he can save a town of cats from a ruthless villain (Ricky Gervais). The supporting cast includes Mel Brooks, George Takei, Djimon Hounsou and Michelle Yeoh.

B.J. Novak wrote, directed and stars in Vengeance as a New Yorker who travels to Texas to investigate the mysterious death of a former paramour. Cultural differences add to comic discomfort in the slow-burn thriller.

She's back! But how did the deceptively brilliant Esther (Isabelle Fuhrman) get her start? Orphan: First Kill explores her origins, from her escape out of a psychiatric family in Estonia to a wealthy family's embrace in America, where suspicion and mistrust lead to deadly consequences.

Paws of Fury: The Legend of Hank revolves around a town of beleaguered cats whose survival is threatened by an evil bad guy (Ricky Gervais). Into the void steps a brave dog (Michael Cera) but first, he'll need training from a samurai master (Samuel L. Jackson). The animated comedy is filled with great voices, like Mel Brooks and George Takei, in the supporting cast.

What do you get when a New Yorker dares to cross into a Southern town in search of a killer? In Vengeance, said New Yorker (writer/director B.J. Novak) discovers far more than he ever expected to find, along the way learning a little something about himself.

The mirthful, incredibly silly titular creatures in Minions: The Rise of Gru get their own back story, of a sort. The brightly animated comedy showcases a very young Gru, before he became completely despicable.

What more can we learn about a legendary figure in pop culture? Elvis stars Tom Hanks as Col. Tom Parker, the mastermind behind the singer. Elvis himself is robustly portrayed by Austin Butler, who gives a dynamite performance.

Sorry to say, but every killer had to start somewhere. Orphan: First Kill depicts the tragic circumstances that led Esther (Isabelle Fuhrman) to become a very dangerous person.
