Tom Hardy Capone

Want to know what’s coming soon to digital and what to watch right now on FandangoNOW? Here is your weekly guide to the latest releases:

What are the latest new releases to watch right now?

Capone, a biopic starring Tom Hardy as the titular gangster, is said to be so crazy that you have to see it to believe it, and you can now watch it at home by buying it or renting it digitally on FandangoNOW. Meanwhile, Blumhouse’s acclaimed remake The Invisible Man is available for purchase with new bonus features.

What movies are great to pair with those new releases?

If you’re going to get Capone, you also need to get the recent gangster biopic Gotti, starring John Travolta as the titular mob boss. You can purchase both in a bundle for less than $19. You can also pick up these past Al Capone movies: 1959’s Al Capone, 1975’s Capone and 1987’s The Untouchables.

While you’re checking out the latest version of The Invisible Man, you can also pick up previous movies involving an unseeable menace, like the original 1933 version of The Invisible Man,  the comedic mashup Abbott and Costello Meet the Invisible Man and the Kevin Bacon thriller Hollow Man.

Are there any other big movies coming out this week?

This Friday, the Scooby-Doo animated feature Scoob!, which was originally planned as a theatrical release, arrives on digital. And if you pre-order the movie now, you’ll get 50% off a selection of other movies.

What movies are newly available as rentals?

The Blumhouse horror movie Fantasy Island, based on the classic television series, in now available to rent as an unrated edition. Also, you can rent Stella Meghie’s romantic drama The Photograph, which stars Issa Rae and LaKeith Stanfield exhibiting exceptional chemistry.

I also recommend a few that premiered recently: the musical remake of Valley Girl (which you can also buy as a bundle with the 1983 original); the fascinating documentary Spaceship Earth, about Biosphere 2 (pair it with the goofy comedy Bio-dome); and The Traitor (pair with the documentary version, Our Godfather).

Can you recommend some great binge bundles to rent?

How many remakes are better than the original? Find out with a series of binge bundles, all for less than $7, including both versions of popular titles. Double features of original and redo include sports movies like Bad News Bears and The Longest Yard, as well as crime films The Gambler and The Italian Job.

There’s also a two-pack featuring both versions of True Grit, which is among a few recommended Western binge bundles, each including at least one John Wayne classic. The Shootist is paired with High Noon, and Hondo is paired with El Dorado. They can all be bought together or rented together.

What are some great movies about inventors?

May is National Inventor’s Month, so I’ve got some movies to recommend tied to the occasion. Of course, we can’t get started without acknowledging our favorite movie franchise involving a certain fictional inventor. Follow Doc Brown and his time-traveling adventures with Marty McFly in the Back to the Future trilogy.

Other fictional inventors I love include Wayne Szalinski in Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, (and the sequel, Honey, I Blew Up the Kid), flubber creator Ned Brainard in The Absent-Minded Professor (and its sequel, Son of Flubber) and — this one gets a little darker — Seth Brundle in the 1986 version of The Fly.

Then there are all the great animated features about inventors, such as the boy wonder Lewis from the underrated Disney movie Meet the Robinsons, Hiro in Disney’s Big Hero 6 and Wallace in the Aardman claymation favorite Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit.

How about some biopics about real-life inventors? Spencer Tracy portrays Thomas Edison in the Oscar-nominated 1940 classic Edison, the Man, Greg Kinnear plays wronged inventor Robert Kearns in Flash of Genius and Hugh Dancy is the little-known but noteworthy inventor Mortimer Granville in Hysteria.

Are we celebrating any big anniversaries this week?

The original Fame turns 40, the submarine action movie Crimson Tide turns 25 and Battlefield Earth, Requiem for a Dream, Disney’s Dinosaur and O Brother, Where Art Thou? all turn 20 while A History of Violence turns 15. And 70 years ago saw the release of the Humphrey Bogart classic In a Lonely Place.

Which must-see movies are coming soon to FandangoNOW?

As recently announced, Nisha Ganatra’s The High Note, starring Dakota Johnson, will be available at the end of the month. And coming in June, we’ll be getting the puppeteer biopic Judy & Punch, starring Mia Wasikowska, and the World War II thriller Mr. Jones, from award-winning filmmaker Agnieszka Holland.
