You Don't Nomi

Highly-anticipated before its wide theatrical release as a serious drama about adult sexuality by acclaimed director Paul Verhoeven (Total Recall, Basic Instinct), Showgirls instead met with disdain from critics and disinterest from audiences. Somehow, though, the film has steadily grown in popularity since then, along with a surprising uptick in its critical reputation. The compelling new documentary You Don't Nomi explores why and how Showgirls is now viewed by many as a beloved cult classic.

Directed by Jeffrey McHale, You Don't Nomi first looks back at the making of Showgirls, including the stirring transformation of Nomi Malone (Elizabeth Berkley) from an ambitious dancer to a glittery Las Vegas star. You Don't Nomi then shows the incredible range of diverse audiences that have responded to Nomi and her story over the years, endeavoring to pin down what, exactly, may have given Showgirls such enduring appeal.
