In 2017, we're going to get not one, but two Justice League movies! Well, okay, one of those will most definitely be branded a full-on Justice League movie and is a direct live-action follow-up to Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, in theaters this weekend. The other, which comes out several months earlier (on February 10, 2017) is another follow-up of sorts, only for the wildly successful The Lego Movie.
Lego Batman is back! And he's brought with him his own movie! As the amusing first trailer for The Lego Batman Movie reveals, Batman is still busy fighting crime alongside his Justice League pals by night, and by late night he's, um, microwaving lobster all by his lonesome... like a boss!
Check it out.
Will Arnett returns as the perfectly cast voice of Lego Batman, with a voice cast that includes Zach Galifianakis as Joker, Michael Cera as Robin, Rosario Dawson as Batgirl, Ralph Fiennes as Alfred and Mariah Carey as the mayor of Gotham. We're sure the film has other surprises up its sleeve, and we're curious to see if it connects in any way to The Lego Movie, expanding that franchise's own cinematic universe.
Here's the official synopsis:
In the irreverent spirit of fun that made “The LEGO® Movie” a worldwide phenomenon, the self-described leading man of that ensemble – LEGO Batman – stars in his own big-screen adventure: “The LEGO® Batman Movie.” But there are big changes brewing in Gotham, and if he wants to save the city from The Joker’s hostile takeover, Batman may have to drop the lone vigilante thing, try to work with others and maybe, just maybe, learn to lighten up.
Fans looking for the straight-up sequel to The Lego Movie will have to wait a bit longer, as that doesn't hit theaters till May 18, 2018. Meanwhile, the live-action Justice League movie drops on November 17, 2017.
