I love my laptop. It allows me to participate in a career I adore. It’s my access to the online universe, which is stuffed to the cyber-gills with fascinating film stories, hilarious GIFs and, of course, cat pictures. But Spike Jonze’s new Her sets a new definition for “love” as it pertains to technology. Maybe I’ll let the latest trailer speak for the film, which is strange and wonderful, beautiful and sad… in all the best ways possible.

Is love still love if it’s between a human and an operating system (voiced by Scarlett Johannson)? Is this where humanity is heading? And if yes, is that so wrong?

These are the types of questions asked by Jonze in his surreal poem to relationships. Joaquin Phoenix is outstanding as a lonely man mending a broken heart following a divorce. He takes a chance on an experimental new program. It changes everyone’s life.

Her has been playing a few festivals as it primes for a January release date. Get your tickets here. Until then, Warner Bros. has shared a number of vibrant stills from Jonze’s breathtaking movie. We’ll share our favorites below. See Her when it opens in theaters. It’s something special.
