Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart hosted the 25th annual MTV movie awards show last night and among the many highlights, two new trailers for highly anticipated movies debuted.
We've heard a lot about Suicide Squad, most recently that new footage was being shot with the goal of adding more comic lightness to the movie (though director David Ayer says it's to add more action). The new trailer is packed with footage we haven't seen before, including a bunch of lighter moments involving multiple characters. It's safe to say that our Suicide Squad anticipation is now through the roof.
The action is set to Lesley Gore's immortal "You Don't Own Me" (1963) and the Sweet's "The Ballroom Blitz" (1973), both pop tunes that serve well as background music for the snappy action that unfolds, with fun character moments featuring Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Joel Kinnaman and more. We also get our first quick look at Batman (Ben Affleck), his cape flying when he's atop a speeding car and then speeding through the air himself.
David Ayer (Fury) wrote and directed. Suicide Squad opens in theaters on August 5.
The first trailer for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them was truly a teaser, introducing us to Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne), a world-famous magizoologist (one who studies magical creatures), and a mysterious suitcase containing said magical creatures.
The brand-new trailer is a bigger peek at the time and place where the story will take place. Have a look below.
J.K. Rowling wrote the screenplay for the movie, which is set in 1920s New York and thus a prequel to the Harry Potter adventures. The trailer also showcases a glamorous entrance for Katherine Waterston (above), who plays Porpentina “Tina” Goldstein, and introduces Dan Fogler as Jacob Kowalski, Newt's roommate.
Locating the action in America nearly 100 years ago also gives everything a fresh perspective. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them will open up a wonderful world of magical adventures on November 18.
