Details about Jason Bourne, the next installment in the thriller series, began leaking out earlier this year. It's a reunion for star Matt Damon and director Paul Greengrass, who first teamed up for the second installment, The Bourne Supremacy, and brought the series to an apparent conclusion in The Bourne Ultimatum. Jeremy Renner then came on board to lead The Bourne Legacy, a spin-off featuring a new character, but fans continued to clamor for more Bourne.
The news that Damon and Greengrass would be telling a new chapter in the life of the operative was quite exciting. Back in February, Damon described the first three films as an "identity journey," which led to the character recovering his memories, but still left him "in a very dark and tortured place." Really, it seems that the new film continues to explore the depths of the character's true identity.
As a refresher, here's the first teaser, which includes the return of helpful former intelligence officer Nicky (Julia Stiles) and a colossal punch.
Last month, the first trailer fleshed out the plot and cast a bit more, with Tommy Lee Jones showing up as a spy agency chief and Alicia Vikander as a key member of his team, following Bourne from an austerity riot in Greece to an amazing action sequence in Las Vegas.
Now comes a new featurette that includes a smattering of new footage, as well as interviews with Damon and Greengrass that put the character, and the events that are about to surround him, into perspective.
As eager as we are to see more about the character -- and to learn the surprises that are teased -- we're also enjoying the slow reveal as we ease back into a world of suspense and intrigue. Riz Ahmed and Jason Cassel also star. Jason Bourne will open in theaters on July 29.
