What happens when a wizard arrives in New York with a case full of magical creatures.... and those creatures escape?

That's what the first Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them announcement trailer sets up. Due out November 18, 2016 and based on J.K. Rowling's 2001 encyclopedia beastanica, the film stars a dashing Eddie Redmayne as Newt Scamander, a world-famous magizoologist. The first Fantastic Beasts (ah yes, this will indeed launch a new franchise) will track Scamander's beastly adventures in 1920s New York.

Have a look at the trailer below, which teases our return to the wizarding world we fell so in love with over the course of eight Harry Potter movies.

In addition to Redmayne as Scamender, the above image also includes Katherine Waterston as Porpentina “Tina” Goldstein, Alison Sudol as Queenie Goldstein and Dan Fogler as Jacob Kowalski.

While we don't see any creatures yet, we do get a glimpse of the Magical Congress of the United States of America (or MACUSA), which is the American version of the Ministry of Magic.

As for its Harry Potter connections, Newt Scamander's roots should be familiar to Potter fans as the beast expert who graduated from Hogwarts and joined the Ministry of Magic. He was eventually transferred to the Beast Division and then commissioned to write a guide to beasts called, well, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

Let us know what you think of the first trailer. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them hits theaters on November 18, 2016.
