To the disbelief of his mother (Gabrielle Union) in The Inspection, Ellis French (Jeremy Pope) decides to join the Marines. The young, gay, Black man feels he has few other options available if he is to make a success of his life. Ellis anticipates that he will have to overcome deep-seated prejudice and endure grueling routines, but he never expected the strength and support he receives in his new community.

Elegance Bratton wrote and directed, inspired by his own life experiences as a young, gay, Black man. In our exclusive featurette, he recounts how he came to join the Marines and then made the choice to become a filmmaker, which he describes as "a happy accident." He notes: "I believe that all people are only as valuable as their ability to protect one another." He concludes by describing the movie as "a story of survival and determination."
