Last time these two appeared on screen together it was back in 2001 during Cameron Crowe’s Vanilla Sky, which, it can be argued, was at the height of Cameron Diaz’s film career. Since then we’ve watched other leading ladies take her place, while Diaz has spent most her time starring in Shrek movies and really bad romantic comedies opposite Ashton Kutcher. (C’mon, admit it -- What Happens in Vegas should’ve totally stayed in Vegas.)

Now, however, the gal may be rebounding a bit, as Variety reports that 20th Century Fox is looking to pair her back up with none other than Tom "I can make any movie over $100 million" Cruise for an untitled romantic comedy that, at one point, was called Wichita and Trouble Man. James Mangold (Walk the Line, 3:10 to Yuma) will direct the film, which originally was supposed to star Chris Tucker and Eva Mendes.

Plot wise they’re a little vague, but what we’re looking at is a story about a woman who has horrible luck in the romance department until she meets a mysterious handsome man on a blind date. The "mysterious" angle may mean this one has a high concept or some sort of supernatural element (ie: the mysterious stranger is really cupid disguised as Tom Cruise … or something like that).

What do you think of Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz as an on-screen couple? Do they work together? Are there still Cameron Diaz fans out there? I need to know these things, people!
