Director Commentary of the Day:

Booksmart, one of the most acclaimed comedies of the year, is now out in theaters. For the New York Times, director Olivia Wilde shares a memorable fantasy musical number from the movie featuring Beanie Feldstein and discusses how she and cinematographer Jason McCormick shot the scene:

 

Filmmaker in Focus:

Speaking of directors of new movies, Disney’s live-action reimagining of Aladdin is also out this weekend, so IMDb takes a look at the filmmaking trademarks of Guy Ritchie, who helmed the new remake. Among the staple elements you’ll find in his movies are larger-than-life characters and the use of slow-motion:

 

Music Performance of the Day:

Alan Menken, who won two Oscars for his work on the 1992 animated version of Aladdin, returned to compose the score and a new song for the remake. He also made an appearance at the press junket for the new movie and performed a medley of all his best Disney tunes, including that new Aladdin song, “Speechless.” Watch it here:

 

Talk Show Appearance of the Day:

Want another musical performance promoting the release of Aladdin? Stars Will Smith, Naomi Scott and Mena Massoud joined James Corden for this special “Crosswalk the Musical” sketch taped for The Late Late Show involving two songs from the movie (“Friend Like Me” and “Prince Ali”) re-created in the middle of Los Angeles traffic:
