Today in Movie Culture: ‘John Wick’ Recap, the Probability of the Plot of ‘Avengers: Endgame’ and More

Here are a bunch of little bites to satisfy your hunger for movie culture:

Franchise Recap of the Day:

John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum opens in theaters this weekend. Haven’t seen the first two installments? Or, maybe you’ve forgotten what happened in those movies? Don’t fret, because Birth.Movies.Death has created a couple of recaps, one breaking down the events of 2014’s John Wick and the other reminding us what happened previously, in the first sequel John Wick: Chapter 2. Watch both below.

Cosplay of the Day:

How many John Wick fans are cosplaying as the title character to screenings of John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum? It’s not that hard, really, if you’ve got a suit and the right hairdo. Just make sure you leave your gun props at home. And if you’re like this guy, doing an awesome photoshoot paying tribute to the John Wick: Chapter 2 poster, make sure you wear pants to the theater:

Classic Movie Trailer of the Day:

In honor of the release of John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum, earlier this week we looked back at the original trailer for the movie that started it all. Now let’s revisit the marketing for the first sequel. Courtesy of Movieclips, here’s the original trailer for John Wick: Chapter 2, which opened in U.S. theaters on February 10, 2017:

Actor in the Spotlight:

John Wick is arguably Keanu Reeves’ best role since Neo in The Matrix, if not ever. The actor has played a few other iconic heroes over the years, too, but can you imagine if he’d starred in Enchanted, Bowfinger or Batman Forever? In this video, IMDb looks at the many roles he lost or turned down, including one in the Lord of the Rings trilogy:

Movie Expert of the Day:

Acting is a skill all its own, but oftentimes it requires some additional expertise on the side. For her role as the titular cosmic superhero of Captain Marvel, Brie Larson was aided in her performance by an ace pilot: U.S. Air Force recruiter Jeannie M. Leavitt. In this video, Mashable showcases the commander and how she served as a consultant for the Marvel Cinematic Universe movie:

Fan Art of the Day:

It’s been a while since we last shared Captain Marvel fan art, and we know how much Brie Larson loves this stuff, so we’ve got at least one more piece to share before the MCU installment leaves theaters. This one is by UK based illustrator Simon Carpenter and beautifully gives Carol Danvers a bit of an angelic halo behind her:

Movie Science of the Day:

What happens at the end of Avengers: Endgame? If you don’t know by now, will you ever? Okay, still, the following video is definitely focused on a major spoiler for the latest Marvel movie, as it features Kyle Hill scientifically explaining what really happened to Iron Man. Watch at your own discretion — but also, hey, go see Endgame already, come on!

Movie Math of the Day:

Math is also a science, but let’s get more specific now with something else spoilery about Avengers: Endgame. Spotlighting the rat who inadvertently rescued Ant-Man from the quantum realm as the movie’s real MVP, MatPat uses his latest installment of Film Theory to consider the mathematical probability of that moment actually happening:

Trailer Parody of the Day:

Speaking of Avengers: Endgame spoilers, the new trailer for Spider-Man: Far From Home has plenty of them, especially in the moment when Peter Parker asks why he’s the only superhero available for Nick Fury’s world-saving needs. The gang at How It Should Have Ended present an amusing animated extension of that bit that concludes with a different movie existing instead of the Spidey sequel:

Plot Song of the Day:

Pokémon: Detective Pikachu has now been in theaters for a week, so we can spoil that movie, too, right? Perfectly set to the tune of the Pokémon animated series theme song, Aaron Fraser-Nash delivers his latest plot song with new lyrics chronicling the events of Pikachu’s story arc in his first live-action movie:
