He wouldn't exactly be the guy you'd expect to revive The Three Musketeers for the big screen, but in an age where every other film is in 3D and Sly Stallone is still doing action movies, we should always be prepared for the unexpected. The Hollywood Reporter tells us that Paul W.S. Anderson (Alien vs. Predator, Resident Evil) will produce (not direct) a new version of The Three Musketeers, which he co-wrote with Andrew Davies (Bridget Jones's Diary, The Tailor of Panama).
According to Anderson, they want to "modernize" The Three Musketeers, but "without compromising the fun of shooting a period piece." He later adds, "… in our film, corsets and feathered hats don't take center stage. Our version is rich in eye-popping action, romance and adventure." One way they'll be modernizing the classic tale about three disgraced fighters and the young man who's eager to join them will be to bring it to the screen in 3D (of course!), which means the film's obligatory sword fights will play it a little too close for comfort.
Though a director hasn't been chosen yet, the plan is for the movie to shoot next year with a target release date of 2011. What do you think about a new Three Musketeers ?
