From filmmaker Joe Wright (Atonement, Anna Karenina) comes the musical romance Cyrano, starring Peter Dinklage in the titular role. Based on the famous story of Cyrano de Bergerac, this adaptation co-stars Haley Bennett as Cyrano’s beloved Roxanne. And Kelvin Harrison Jr. plays Christian, the man who completes the love triangle while speaking words that aren’t his own.

For another kind of movie infused with music, Studio 666 also hits theaters exclusively this weekend. The horror comedy features members of the rock band Foo Fighters, led by Dave Grohl, all playing themselves. The plot, also co-written by Grohl, follows the group as they face supernatural forces in a haunted mansion where they’re attempting to record their latest album.

Fred Hechinger joins Kraven: Sony has found another actor to portray one of Spider-Man’s villains. According to Deadline, Fear Street actor Fred Hechinger has been cast in Kraven the Hunter, and he’s expected to portray the half-brother of Aaron Johnson-Taylor’s lead character. That would mean he fills the role of Dmitri Smerdyakov, also known as the master-of-disguise baddie the Chameleon. Numan Acar played a version of the character in Sony and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Far From Home (seen below).

 

Blade adds Aaron Pierre: Speaking of movies based on Marvel comic books, Blade has also added to its cast this week. Deadline reports that Old actor Aaron Pierre will co-star in the Marvel Cinematic Universe installment opposite lead Mahershala Ali, who will play the titular vampire hunter. Pierre’s part is unknown, but he at least has some experience in superhero fare having co-starred in the DC-based TV series Krypton. Delroy Lindo (Da 5 Bloods) also recently joined the movie for an undisclosed role.

 

Channing Tatum to lead System Crasher: Speaking of remakes, Dog star Channing Tatum has been cast as the lead in MGM’s System Crasher. According to Deadline, Tatum will also produce the English-language redo based on the German film of the same name. The plot involves a young girl in and out of foster homes until she meets the right father figure. The original stars Albrecht Schuch and child actress Helena Zengel, who was seen opposite Tom Hanks in the Hollywood drama News of the World.

 

Here is a Forrest Gump reunion: Speaking of Tom Hanks, the Oscar-winning actor will reunite with Forrest Gump director Robert Zemeckis and screenwriter Eric Roth for Here. Deadline reports that the adaptation of Richard McGuire’s comic strip turned graphic novel will focus on a single room and the people who inhabit it over a very long stretch of time, including the past, the present and the distant future. Hanks will also be a producing partner on the movie through his company Playtone.

 

Tom Brady to star in 80 for Brady: Speaking of Forrest Gump, Sally Field is one of a handful of actresses set to appear opposite recently retired NFL quarterback Tom Brady in his first stint as a movie star. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Brady will lead 80 for Brady, a football-themed road trip movie that will also feature Hollywood legends Rita Moreno, Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda. Brady is also producing the picture for Paramount while Kyle Marvin (The Climb) is directing from his and Michael Covino’s script.

 

Oppenheimer continues to build its ensemble: Finally, we have another casting update on Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer. Variety reports that Belfast and Death on the Nile director Kenneth Branagh, who previously appeared in Nolan’s Dunkirk, has joined the biopic as it begins production. Also, according to The Hollywood Reporter, the ensemble has added Solo: A Star Wars star Alden Ehrenreich and David Krumholtz, both of whom were in the Coens’ Hail, Caesar!, to the mix in unknown roles.
