Need a quick recap of the past week in movie news? Here are the highlights:

Denis Villeneuve Dune

Denis Villeneuve sticks to sci-fi: Oscar-nominated filmmaker Denis Villeneuve, whose movies include Arrival, Blade Runner 2049 and this year’s Dune, announced yet another science fiction project. According to The Hollywood Reporter, after directing the sequel Dune: Part II and episodes of the Dune TV spin-off, Villeneuve will make Rendezvous with Rama, based on the 1973 sci-fi novel by 2001: A Space Odyssey writer Arthur C. Clarke.

Like Arrival, this movie will involve mankind’s first contact with extraterrestrials. The story is set in the 2130s and follows a mission from Earth to intercept an alien spaceship hurtling through our solar system towards the Sun. This could be a potential franchise for  Villeneuve since five Rama sequel novels were written by Gentry Lee, three of them in collaboration with Clarke.

Ben Schwartz to co-star in Dracula movie: Speaking of popular genre novels, the latest reworking of Bram Stoker’s Dracula has added Ben Schwartz to its cast. Variety reports that the comedian and actor, currently best known for voicing the lead character in the Sonic the Hedgehog movies, will co-star in Universal’s Renfield. His part has not yet been disclosed.

Chris McKay (The Tomorrow War) is directing the horror feature from a script by Ryan Ridley (Rick and Morty) based on an idea by The Walking Dead creator Rob Kirkman. The focus of the story here is on the titular character who becomes Dracula’s henchman. Nicholas Hoult is playing Renfield, Nicolas Cage has the role of the iconic vampire, and Awkwafina is also in the cast.

Christopher Nolan to direct Florence Pugh: Three more actors joined the cast of Christopher Nolan’s next movie. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Black Widow actress Florence Pugh will co-star in the biopic Oppenheimer as Jean Tatlock, girlfriend of J. Robert Oppenheimer (played by Cillian Murphy) prior to his work developing the atomic bomb. She was also a member of the Communist Party of the United States, which became a major security concern regarding Oppenheimer’s work later on.

Oscar-winning actor Rami Malek (Bohemian Rhapsody) is also now on board the highly anticipated project in an undisclosed scientist role. And actor/filmmaker Benny Safdie (Licorice Pizza) will portray Hungarian-American physicist Edward Teller, who went on to become “the father of the hydrogen bomb” following his work with and then betrayal of Oppenheimer.

Seth Rogen joins Chippendales: Speaking of biographical drama about scandalized figures, Chippendales is about to add two high-profile names to its cast. Deadline reports that Seth Rogen (Steve Jobs) and Elle Fanning (Hulu’s The Great) are in talks to join the movie, which will be based on the true story behind the titular enterprise famous for its all-male exotic dancers.

Rogen is expected to play choreographer Nick De Noia, who came up with the dancers’ routine. Fanning would portray Playboy model Dorothy Stratten, who helped with the design of the iconic Chippendales costume. Craig Gillespie (I, Tonya) co-wrote and is directing the picture, which will star Dev Patel (The Green Knight) as Chippendales founder Steve Banerjee.
