Oh, they ain't afraid of no ghosts.
That's fairly obvious from this new official image of the new ladies at the center of next summer's Ghostbusters reboot, starring (from left to right) Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon, Kristen Wiig and Leslie Jones.
Unlike some of this year's more memorable franchise restarts (Jurassic World, Mad Max: Fury Road, Creed, Star Wars: The Force Awakens), Ghostbusters is very much a clean reboot and not connected to the other two Ghostbusters movies, aside from cameos from its original cast members.
“The old movies are so good, I didn't want to mess with them, director Paul Feig (Bridesmaids, Spy) told AlloCine earlier this year. "I also want to see the beginnings of this group. I want to see people seeing ghosts for the first time, and how they are going to fight them for the first time, how they develop their technology.”
Just how much of this new reboot will feature nods to the original? We're not entirely sure, but this image certainly seems to confirm at least one. While we don't know exactly where the ladies are standing, the interior definitely feels reminiscent of the Sedgewick Hotel from the first movie, only this looks to be called the Merado or Mercado, according to the name on the wall behind them.
It was during that scene that the Ghostbusters first came together as a complete unit, defeating the menacing ghost and completing their mission. Remember, they came, they saw, and they kicked its ass.
Could this image reveal a similar triumphant moment from the new movie?
Ghostbusters hits theaters on July 15, 2016. And now we await that first trailer...
